Wendell Hershaw, 91, passed away July 13, 2018 surrounded by family at LaVerna Village, Savannah, MO. He had resided in Stewartsville, MO from 1967 to 2008, then moved to Steelville, MO. He had recently moved from Steelville, MO to LaVerna Village in Savannah, MO. He was born in Fillmore, MO on January 3, 1927 to Jenny Elizabeth Lightle and Floyd Hershaw and graduated from Fillmore High School in 1944.
He farmed, owned a feed grinding business, and McGuire's garage in Fillmore, MO before becoming a truck driver for Hillyard Chemical Company in St. Joseph, MO. He was employed with Hillyards from 1961-1982. After that he drove a truck for Affiliated Foods in Elwood, KS until his retirement.
Wendell held the office of Deacon in Community of Christ, Stewartsville, MO.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dixie Dianne; sisters, Ethel Nease, Mildred Aitchison, Genila McGuire, Cloma Christmas and Regina Puett. He is survived by daughters, Bonnie (Ron) Hinderks, Stewartsville, MO; Regina (Rex) Coatney, Pomona, MO; Jennifer (Kevin) Farr, Springfield, MO, and son, Keith Hershaw, Yorktown, VA.
He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, August 5 at Breit Hawkins Funeral Home in Savannah, MO with a graveside service to follow in Fillmore Cemetery, Fillmore, MO.
