Thomas William Owens Sr., 73, St Joseph, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, MO. He was born in St. Joseph June 22, 1941 to Harold Sr. & Madelyn (Richardson) Owens. He married Laura Helton in St. Joseph on July 22, 1961 and she survives of the home.
Tom loved his family and loved to work. He was a go getter and never quit. He was known as the Godfather of the Owens family. He worked at St. Joseph Fuel Company for many years and only retired with the company closing. He then started Owens and Sons Construction and T&L Snow Removal.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Steven Owens and Tomas W. "TomTom" Owens Jr both of St. Joseph; one daughter, Vickie Weyer of St. Joseph; one brother, Richard Owens of Jefferson City; three sisters, Vivian Grissom of St. Joseph, Jenny & Mores Lee Heden of Smithville, and Joyce Owens of Kansas City; three grandchildren, Dustin Owens, Jameson Owens, and Nikki Owens; and two great-grandchildren, Quinton & Cameron Owens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters, one great-nephew, and one great-grandson.
Celebration of Life will be 1:00 PM Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Gladden-Stamey Funeral Home in St. Joseph, MO. Visitation and family receiving hours will be 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Gladden-Stamey Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
