Thelma Rowlett, 105, of Savannah, formerly of Graham, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018, at LaVerna Village, of Savannah.
Thelma was born August 23, 1912, on a farm near Bolckow, Missouri to Charlie Wade and Jessie (Shrader) Wade. She attended the Arapahoe One Room School through Grade 8 and the attended high school in Bolckow. She was active with the Bethany Church in rural Barnard, Missouri and met her husband Floyd Rowlett there. They married on August 23, 1929 which was her birthday and anniversary of her parents. They moved into a new farm house near Graham, Missouri not far the church where they raised angus cattle and sheep as well as other crops including popcorn.She babysat many children in the area and was active in local Graham causes including the Graham Street Fair and was a Democratic Party Committeeman said it would have been appropriate to see Herbert Hoover when he inspected the farm he owned near Graham in 1934.
They retired from the farm in 1984 and moved to Savannah, Missouri.
Floyd passed March 22, 1992. She continued to live alone in the house until she was 100 when she moved to LaVerna Village in Savannah. She was Grand Marshall of the 2012 Graham Street Fair. In 2017 it was noted that she was the oldest person to ever live at LaVerna Village.
Her parents preceded her in death.
She is survived by nephews Richard Rowlett (Bellevue, Washington) and Roger Rowlett (New York City); and cousins Wayne Drydale (Bolckow), Harold Max Drydale (Barnard), and Kenneth Drydale, (St. Joseph) and many, many other cousins.
Visitation and family receiving hours will be Tuesday, April 10, 2018 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home in Savannah. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 2:00pm at Bethany Christian Church, Barnard, MO. Burial will be in Bethany Christian Church Cemetery, Barnard, MO.
