Shirley Jean Taylor, 86 of Bolckow, MO passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at LaVerna Village in Savannah, MO. She was born on May 16, 1929, to Emmett & Helen Louise (Miller) Nunnenkamp. She married Edwin V. Taylor in St. Joseph, MO on August 11, 1948, and he preceded her in death in 1993.
Shirley was never one to be still. In early life, she was busy cooking, cleaning, being Super Mom to her crew. She gardened, first to provide for the table and later as a passion, and was an active member of the Rosendale Community Garden Club, serving in various local and district offices. She loved traveling, and after retirement enjoyed visiting places around the U.S., Europe, and Australia with a group of friends or family. Shirley was a talented seamstress,sewing for her six daughters, then granddaughters, embroidering, making lap quilts for nursing homes, and lovingly creating quilts for her children, grandchildren, and most recently for great grandchildren. Once her children were grown she traveled on mission trips with church to various places in the U.S., Mexico, and Caribbean, cooked and served for the Valley Food Kitchen, volunteered at North Andrew and Savannah Schools, visited the sick and homebound, volunteered at the Andrew County Museum, and had such a giving spirit, she gave to every charity that asked.
Shirley graduated from Savannah High School and Platte Business College before marrying the man that danced into her heart, when she started her longest and most loved career as farmer, housewife and mother. She later worked at Mead Products, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Mount Oak Club, American Legion Auxiliary in Conception Junction, MO, and Rosendale Christian Church, where she was active in all aspects.
Survivors include eight children: Cheryl Denney, Ron (Nadine) Taylor, Rosendale, Diane (Bill) Breckenridge, Clive, IA, Twyla Wilson-Carpenter, Savannah, Rodney (Toni) Taylor, Bolckow, Mike (Betty) Taylor, Savannah, Sharon Wampler, Bolckow, Brenda (Tracy) Ordnung, Savannah, 21 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 2 step great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, daughter, Mary Margaret, and parents.
Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, February 9, 2016, 10AM at Rosendale Christian Church, Rosendale, MO with family visitation Monday, February 8, 2016 from 5PM-8PM at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home Savannah, MO. Interment will be in Savannah Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Rosendale Garden Club for new landscaping for the Rosendale Christian Church.
