Regina Sue Ashford, 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Mosaic LifeCare in St. Joseph, Missouri.
She was born in St. Joseph on July 16, 1945 to Christopher "Joe" and Malissa (Dotson) Wyatt, and was raised by her mother and stepfather Glenn E. Hyder. She was a graduate of Lafayette High School (1963) and attended Missouri Western State College.
Regina was a creative artist with talents in painting and ceramics. Her greatest passion was for the highly detailed and whimsical porcelain dolls she brought to life and sold at local arts and crafts fairs for many years. She loved music and was an avid reader with a special interest in fantasy lore.
A loving mother and doting grandmother, Regina is survived by her children, Christopher (Sandra) Smith, Angele (Samuel) Schellhorn, Jennifer (Elliot) Swope; grandchildren, Jessica and Zoe Schellhorn; and her brother, Gregg Hyder. She is also survived by her devoted companion of 42 years, Lon Roberts.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday September 23, 2017 at 1:00pm at Gladden-Stamey Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Public visitation and family receiving hours will be Friday September 22, 2017 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Gladden-Stamey Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Memorial contributions can be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
