Mildred Glayds (Steeby) Johnston, 95, Savannah, went to be with the Lord Saturday, March 3, 2018 at LaVerna Village in Savannah, MO. Mildred was the daughter of Ammon R. Steeby and Zelma Faye (Palmer) Steeby. She married Mayburn Johnston on February 1, 1948 in Shenandoah, IA. and he preceded her in death July 1st, 1984.
Mildred was employed at the Dr. Nicholas Cancer Sanatorium in Savannah before moving to Shenandoah, IA in March of 1943. She worked for over 30 years at the Henry Fields Seed and Nursery Company in Shenandoah, IA. Mildred also work at Elm Heights Park Crest Seminary at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.
She retired in 1984 and moved back to Savannah in January 1985. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Savannah.
She is survived by her sisters Zelpha Steeby, Donna Shreve, Faye Atkins and brother, Edward Steeby all of Savannah; sister in law, Mary Steeby; brother in law, Franklin Hughes and by several niece's & nephews and their families. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Mayburn, her parents, Brother William R. Steeby, Floyd "Jake" Steeby, and sister Bernita Joy Hughes.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 11:00am at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home in Savannah. Visitation and family receiving hour will be 10:00am-11:00am Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fillmore Cemetery in Fillmore, MO. Memorial contributions can be made to Mosaic Hospice.
