Obituary

Michael Dennis Scanlan, 80, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026. He was born on January 8, 1946.

Michael was a hardworking man who dedicated much of his life to caring for cattle, a way of life he loved and took great pride in. He also retired from Eveready after many years of faithful service, earning the respect of those who worked alongside him.

Above all, Michael was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He shared a beautiful life with the love of his life, Kathy Scanlan, who preceded him in death on October 1, 2025. Together they built a family rooted in love, faith, and enduring values. Michael's greatest joy came from spending time with his family and watching it grow through the generations.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Mike (Kim) Scanlan Jr. of Amazonia, Missouri; Tricia (Rod) Gilmore of Washington; and Jason (Teresa) Scanlan of Colorado. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Michael Scanlan III, Jennifer Scanlan, Cole Gilmore, Samantha Kornegay, Ellie Gilmore, Whitnea Scanlan, Sage Scanlan, and Hilirea Wermelskirchen; He is also survived by his brothers Pete Scanlan, Tom Scanlan, sisters Grace, MaryEllen and numerous great-grandchildren; along with extended family and many dear friends.

Michael will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering work ethic, generous heart, and steadfast love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories shared by those who knew and loved him.
