SAVANNAH

Obituary

Michael Blue Lyon of Savannah Missouri made his last wildly, inappropriate and probably sarcastic comment on January 27, 2022 when he kicked down heavens doors. Mike was born on February 1, 1948 in Saint Joseph Missouri and was the only son of the late Vinton Udell Lyon and Evelyn Louise Lyon (Kratzer).

Mike was a welder by trade, an avid hunter and NASCAR fanatic. Mike also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

Mike joined the Air Force in 1967.  He was first sent to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas for basic training.  He was later stationed at Grand Forks Air Force base working on the B-52 Stratto Fortress. A memory he would never forget, as he was a man who was proud and stood for the flag and "Donald Trump."

Mike met the love of his life Melinda Sherbondy at the age of 14. Mike knew he was the luckiest man alive the day she took his last name. Mike and Melinda have shared many tears, laughs, memories, and adventures.

Mike and Melinda embarked on many travels before starting their family. Including several trips to the "The Hills." They were blessed with three beautiful children that they love dearly. Shawn, Cassie and Tenille. Shawn always said he was the favorite, but the truth was, Mike didn't really like any of them. But he totally adored his canine children Moose and LaLa.

Mike was proud to be a grandpa and a great grandpa. A fun one at that. When he wasn't tormenting the grandchildren, he was instilling valuable life lessons, including how not to be a jackass. None the less, he always went above and beyond for the ones he loved.

Mike enjoyed the Kansas City Chiefs, long talks with Bill at the local meat counter at Brother's Market and HOT coffee at his favorite coffee shop.

Mike was known for his timeless words of wisdom of life. "Life is hard, but it's harder if you're stupid." Mike took fashion advice from no one with his trademark local #10 Ironworker, NASCAR t-shirts, and flannel jacket.

His devout feistiness and stubbornness has served him well in his life and even in waning months. He was a model of strong will and sheer determination right up until the end of his journey here on earth. Mike was proficient at cursing. He liked four letter words just about as much as he loved his grilled chicken wings and Christmas pickle macaroni salad.

Mike was generous to a fault, a teddy bear at heart, and yet he sugar coated absolutely nothing. To quote Winston Churchill, "He was a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.."

Mike was a soulmate, a father, a grandpa, great-grandpa and a friend. Family events, local coffee shops, and Savannah, Missouri will never be the same.

"Until we see you again."

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Vinton and Evelyn Lyon; and a sister, Sandra Campbell.  Survivors include wife, Melinda (Sherbondy) wife of 53 years; a son, Shawn Lyon (Kim); two daughters, Cassie Pankake (Tim), and Tennille Hensley (LJ); grandchildren, Cade, Keelyn, Chace, Tymrie, Tristan, Kamryn, Ethan, and Harper; and great-grandchildren, Creek, Cash, Charlotte, Mason, and Kenlei.
