Mary Ellen VonKaenel, 93, Savannah, MO passed away Friday, May 4, 2018 at LaVerna Village in Savannah, MO. She was born on February 11, 1925 to Charles Frederick & Alta Mae (Miller) Henderson in Plattsburg, MO. She married Donald VonKaenel on September 30, 1950 in Amazonia, MO and he preceded her in death on November 13, 1986.
She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was very caring, generous, and would lend a hand to anyone. Those qualities showed while she worked over forty years for the Laverna Heights and Laverna Village. While at Laverna Village she thoroughly enjoyed a good game of Bingo and Flyswatter Volleyball. She will be dearly missed.
Mary is survived by two grandchildren, Tabatha James of St. Joseph and Rick Wells of St. Joseph; one great-grandson, Tyler Huffer of Savannah, MO and one sister, Donna (Jim) Cole of St. Joseph. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two children, Donald VonKaenel Jr, and Sandra K. Sollars; two brothers, and five sisters.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home in Savannah. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home in Savannah. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery, Amazonia, MO. Memorial contributions may made to the LaVerna Village activity account.
