Sister Margaret Catherine (M. Robert) Walker, 86, a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Savannah, Missouri, died on March 17, 2018, at La Verna Village Nursing Home in Savannah, Missouri, following a short illness. Sister Margaret was born on March 28, 1931, in Prairieburg, Iowa, to William J and Elizabeth L (Kula Sadesky) Walker. In August, 1956, she professed her vows as a Sister of St. Francis in Chillicothe, Missouri. After 36 years of teaching lower grades in schools in Chillicothe, Marceline, Brunswick, Kansas City and Kirksville in Missouri, she continued her teaching at Northwest Missouri Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center and Webster Adult Learning Center in St. Joseph. She was also a religious education teacher at St. Rose of Lima. She was a volunteer in probation and parole prison ministry and worked with REC teams at various prisons.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, her brothers Robert and Francis, her sister Mary Arthur, and seven nieces and nephews. She is survived by her brother Tom of Prairieburg, multiple nieces and nephews, and her fellow sisters in religious community.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, March 22 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Chapel in the Sisters of St. Francis Provincial House. Burial will be in the Sisters' Cemetery.
The Scriptural Wake Service will be held Wednesday, March 21 at 7:00 PM in the Mother Pia Ministry Center of the Provincial House with Visitation after 2:00 PM. Memorials may be left to the Sisters of St. Francis Ministry Fund or New Sisters' Fund.
