Leota Corine (Yoder) Alkire, 99 of Rosendale, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at LaVerna Village Nursing Home.
She was born in Rosendale, MO to the late Albert and Clara (Hoover) Yoder on March 19, 1916.
She was a lifelong resident of Andrew county and graduated from Rosendale High School in 1933.
Leota married Arnold M. Alkire on September 18, 1938. They operated Alkire AG Grocery together in Rosendale for 40 years, retiring in 1975. Arnold preceded her in death on September 1, 1981.
Leota was a member of the Rosendale Christian Church since 1929. She and her husband sponsored the youth group, served on the church board, taught youth and adult classes, served on the building committee, and she served as a chairman of the Prayer Chain, until her hearing caused her to give up the position.
She was also a former member of the D.A.R. and worked many elections in Andrew county.
Leota love being with her family. Her grandsons were her pride and joy. In the last few years she made many friends at the LaVerna nursing home where you could find her tooling around in her wheelchair, smiling and waving at everyone.
Mrs. Alkire was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Arnold, an infant daughter, and sisters Opal West and Hazel Yoder.
She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Jean (Alkire) Sybert and her husband Gail Sybert of Rosendale. Four grandsons, Jeremy and fiancé Lynette of Rosendale, Jamin and wife Angie of Savannah, Jareb and wife Wynde Smithville, and Jaylon of Rosendale. Seven great-grandchildren, Jaytin, Jayvin, Michaela, Mattox, Maverick, Haydyn and Camdyn. Her beloved cousin Garnett Hughes, and several nieces and nephews.
The Family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Friday November 13, 2015 at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home in Savannah, MO. Services will be Saturday morning at10am November 14, 2015 at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home.
