April 11, 1927 - February 14, 2017
Joyce Adell Hall Finchum, 89, of St. Joseph, died on February 14 at Carriage Square Health Care Center.
Joyce was born on April 11, 1927, in Agency, MO, the only daughter of Adell Jenkins and Henry Hall. She grew up in St. Joseph and graduated from Central High School in 1945. She married Clarence Oscar Finchum in 1948 in Troy, Kansas, and they were married for 51 years. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1999. Her brother-in-law Bob Finchum, and sister-in-law Doris Shreves also preceded her in death.
Joyce and Clarence moved to San Bernardino, California in 1955 and lived there for 15 years. During those years, they were blessed with two sets of twins, Clarence and Connie, and John and Jacqueline. They returned to Missouri in 1970, living on a farm in Helena until 1979 when they moved to St. Joseph. Joyce worked at the Savannah Sanitarium and retired from St. Joseph State Hospital.
Cherished by her family and friends, Joyce was a self-effacing caregiver with a big heart. She loved roses and was an avid and accomplished flower and vegetable gardner. She enjoyed playing dominos with friends and taking regular trips with Moila. She loved cats and named each one "Miss Kitty."
Joyce is survived by her children; Clarence (Mary Jo) Finchum of Iowa; Connie (David) Frederick of Colorado; John (Kelly) Finchum of St. Joseph; and Jacqueline (Keith) McClure of Clarksdale; grandchildren Colette Cox (Matt), Mary Jo Garcia (Ty), and Jodie Loyd (Jake), and Tyler and Grady Finchum; and great grandchildren Eric, Evan, and Arthur.
