Joann Charlene (Schmidt) Palmer passed away December 23, 2014, at LaVerna Village Nursing Home in Savannah, MO. She was born in Amazonia, MO, on September 23, 1931, to Adolph & Jessie (Gomel) Schmidt.

Joann graduated from Savannah High School in 1948. She moved to St. Joseph and began working for the Tootle-Lacy Bank. On January 7, 1953, she was united in marriage with Edward Palmer at St. Jon's Church in Amazonia. They lived in Rea, MO, in the early years of their marriage and later moved to Rosendale, Missouri. She was a member of the Rosendale Christian Church. After her husband's death, she moved to St. Joseph and for the last 7 years resided at LaVerna Village Nursing Home.

Joann received her cosmetology license in the early 1960's and owned and operated her own shop in the home for many years. She retired from that career after working for Beverly Manor Nursing Home as their beautician.

Joann is survived by children Mari Beth (Hershel) Ferguson, Mound City, Missouri, Doug Palmer and Stephee (Jon) Thee, St. Joseph, Missouri; six grandchildren, Jenny (Dave) Patrie, Kristin (John) Bothof, Katie (Johnny) Urias, Sarah Johnson, Mallory Ferguson, Brent Thee; six great-grandchildren, Jay Warram, Lily Johnson, Bethany Urias, Kelsie, Ryann & Reagan Bothof; three nieces and three nephews; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty (Palmer) and John Brewer and sister-in-law Mary Jo (Palmer) Propes.

Joann was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, her parents, her brothers Carl Schmidt and Robert (Bob) Schmidt and his wife, Thelma, nephew William (Bill) Schmidt and brother-in-law Darwin (Tex) Propes.

Memorial Celebration of Life will be held 2 PM Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014 at Breit - Hawkins Funeral Home, Savannah, MO. Public visitation and family receiving hours will be 5 - 7 PM Friday Dec. 26, 2014 at the Funeral Home. Memorial donations suggested to LaVerna Village Nursing Home.
