Jean Marie Miller, Helena, passed away September 24 surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born June 5, 1933 to Jeanette Trachsel and Charles F. Farrell.
Jean and Don Miller were married September 3, 1955, and celebrated their 67 th wedding anniversary.
Jean grew up on the farm in Helena, now a Century Farm. There she learned from her Swiss family how to farm and dairy and worked in the fields beside her dad. She also helped her mom tend the large garden and can the bounty, learned to sew and how to cook. She was involved in 4-H and church.
Jean brought these skills to the marriage and she and Don moved to their home near Helena in 1960 where she continued her love for farming and gardening and sewing.
In the Spring Jean would be in the fields plowing, discing, and planting. Don and Jean also had a dairy where she very involved with the milking. Along with this she raised chickens and a large garden.
Jean was an excellent cook. She cooked three big meals a day for her family and always cooked a little extra in case someone stopped by which happened often. Although she made delicious pies and meals, her specialty was chocolate angel food cake.
Jean was an excellent seamstress creating patterns and clothes for her family and others. She created and sewed cheerleader outfits for the school.
Later Don and Jean started and operated an over-the-road trucking company. Jean also drove a truck over-the-road when necessary.
Jean accomplished all this while raising three children. She was very involved with their activities as 4-H Leader for Horsemanship and Sewing and attended all their sports events and activities.
She volunteered over 20 years at the Helena Library and known to the children as Grandma Jean. She was also a member of Helena Helpful Neighbors Club and a member of Helena Baptist Church.
Later seven grandchildren came along whom she adored and who adored her. Often she would host all seven for sleepovers. She cooked each grandchild their favorite meal on their birthday and always the chocolate angel food cake.
Her 13 great-grandchildren were also specially loved by Grandma Jean and each of them developed a special bond with her.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Vernelle Miller.
She is survived by her husband, Don, of the home; children Mark (Janet), Rita Houston (Kelly) all of Helena, and Boyd (Kathy) of Savannah.
Her seven grandchildren: Ethan Miller, Caylee Miller Knox, Colby Miller, Jenna Houston Hovey, Brock Houston, Jake Miller, and Katie Miller Stoll.
She is also survived by her 13 great-grandchildren.
Services: Saturday, October 1, Breit-Hawkins Savannah. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Service 11 a.m. Burial Helena Cemetery.
