Harvey Jahnke Sr., 83, St Joseph, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Abbey Woods Living & Rehabilitation in St. Joseph, MO. He was born in St. Joseph September 2, 1931 to William & Minnie (Krummerie) Jahnke. He married Audrey Stolte in Piggott, AR on February 10, 1951 and she survives of the home.
Harvey loved his family and his grandkids. He enjoyed remodeling homes, carpentry, going to the lake in Polo, and was a Jack of all trades. He was a member of VFW Post 6760.
As a teenager in 1947, he joined the US Air Force, he served as a Military Policeman (MP). While in the Air Force he was stationed in Illinois, Japan, Korea, South Dakota, France, Washington, Guam and Montana. He is a veteran of the Korea War and retired after 20 years of service. In December 1967 he moved his family back to St. Joseph, MO. where he worked for Richmond Screw Anchor Co. and later retired from John Venneman Construction.
He is survived by his wife, three children, Harvey Jahnke Jr, Nancy (Richard) Root Jr. both of St. Joseph and Rhonda McAdams of Mobile, AL. They have seven grandchildren, Shannon Jahnke, Harvey Weaklend, Tina Root, Tamara Ricardez, Ryan Root, James McAdams Jr., and Molly Barnett and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Buddy, Roy, Jude, and Frank; three sisters, Rose Marie, and Norma.
Celebration of Life will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Gladden-Stamey Funeral Home in St. Joseph, MO. Visitation and family receiving hours will be 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Gladden-Stamey Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
