Doris Jean Foster, 94, of St. Joseph, MO passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Carriage Square Living Center in St. Joseph, MO.
Doris was born July 24, 1922 in Mound City, MO to Frank and Minnie (Hitchcock) Messner. She attended Skidmore, MO schools and graduated in 1939 as valedictorian. She attended Platt-Gard Business College in St. Joseph, MO.
Doris married Kenneth Russell Foster October 19, 1941 in St. Joseph, MO.
The couple moved to Columbia, MO in 1949 where she lived until 2010. They owned the Foster Key and Bicycle shop until 1978. Doris was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Larry (Pamela) Foster of Kansas City, MO; two daughters, Linda (Rick) Hudson of Columbia, MO, and Becky Durham of Louisburg, KS; one brother, Paul Roger Messner (Rhonda) of Graham, MO; two sisters, Maxine Pew of St. Joseph and Tillie Snyder of Barnard, MO; sister-in-law Joan Thomas of Reading, PA; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995; two brothers, Charles Lincoln "Bud" Messner and Bobby Frank Messner; and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation and family receiving hours will be Monday, February 27, 2017 from 1:00PM - 2:00PM at Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home Savannah, MO. Graveside services and inurnment will follow in Prairie View Cemetery in Graham, MO.
