Donald Lee Berning, 94, of St. Joseph, MO passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, MO. He was born October 17, 1922 in Easton, MO to Robert and Beulah (Coffey) Berning. He married Frances L. Walsh on March 23, 1946 in Atchison, KS, and she preceded him in death on September 10, 1997.
Don owned and operated Berning Auto Repair for many years. His work was his passion, because fixing cars was a big part of him. Don was a big Kansas City Royals fan all of his life. Don loved his family and will be missed dearly.
He is survived by two sons; Robert (Debbie) Berning and Paul Berning both of St. Joseph; four daughters, Bonnie (Gene) Schueth of Lincoln, NE, Donna Berning and Bruce Palmer of Lenexa, KS, Dorothy (Jerry) Ramos of Liberty, MO, and Connie (Bob) Marsh of Port Charlotte, FL; 20 grandchildren, two step grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Hagar of St. Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances, very dear friend Ruth Allen, sister, Betty Wixom, granddaughter Betty Faye Peterson, and his buddy, Petey the Pug.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. Visitation and Rosary will be Monday, July 17, 2017 from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM for the visitation and Rosary to be held at 7:00 PM at Gladden-Stamey Funeral Home in St. Joseph. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
