"Bugsy" Charles Joseph (Thomsen) Maugh, 73, of King City, Missouri passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2015 surrounded by family and friends. Bugsy was a lifetime musician, St. Joseph Blues legend and former bassist for the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.
Bugsy was born on March 7, 1942 in St. Joseph, Missouri to LeRoy and Charlene (Waller) Thomsen and in childhood was adopted by Fred and Martha (Tollard) Maugh. He was baptized Catholic. Bugsy was in the class of 1960 at Central High School. He had worked at Wire Rope and Seitz. Bugsy married Carolyn (McCall) Huffer on August 12, 1978 in St. Joseph, MO. He was a member of ASCAP as a songwriter and was inducted into the Missouri and Nebraska Hall of Fame. On April 18, 2015, in Ohio, he was given honorable mention at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
Survivors: his wife, Carolyn Maugh, of the home; son, Greg Maugh, Shawnee Mission, KS; daughter and son-in-law, FiFi (Scott) Hagadone, CA; siblings, Dixie Daily, Gary (Carole) Maugh, Ron (Carole), Ken (Kim), Robert (Connie), James (Violet), and Edward Thomsen; stepson, Ty Huffer; 5 grandchildren, Cody Maugh, Brook Hagadone, Dustan Huffer, whom was raised in the home, Gage and Skylee Huffer; several nieces, nephews, a host of friends and musicians.
Bugsy was preceded in death by his birth and adoptive parents; brothers, John Thomsen and Bill (Beverly) Maugh, and Richard Saunders, whom was raised as a brother; and a stepson, Ryan Huffer.
Memorial donations can be made to the Charles "Bugsy" Maugh Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
A Memorial Service will be at 4:00 pm Thursday, July 9, 2015 at The Downtown Abbey at 1202 Felix St. St. Joseph, MO. A Celebration of Life will follow at Magoon's at 632 S. 8th. St., St. Joseph.
