Billie Jean (Cobb) Shultz, 82, of St. Joseph, MO passed away on February 23, 2018 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. She was born January 15, 1936 at Gyp, OK near Arapaho, OK to Harvey and Grace Dovel Cobb. She moved to a farm near Whitesville, MO in 1950 with her mother and step-father, Raymond Knauf.
Billie married Earl Shultz, her high school sweetheart, August 24, 1956 in Savannah, MO and he survives of the home.
She was a member of The Whitesville Baptist Church. Billie was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, brother Robert (Bob) Cobb of Weatherford, OK, sisters Barbara Coit of Custer City, OK, Marilyn Coit of Clinton, OK; Grandparents R.R. and Mittie Cobb of Arapaho, OK, and Jim and Myrtle Dovel, Custer City, OK.
Survivors are two sons, Johnny (Sue) Shultz of Platte City, MO and Jim (Cindy) Shultz of Savannah, grandsons, Derek (Jessica) Shultz of Kansas City, MO and Ryan Shultz of Savannah; granddaughter, Jessica Lee Shultz of Savannah; sisters, Betty Cabaniss of Arapaho, OK, and Linda Raye McCush of Amazonia, MO and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Billie graduated from Rosendale, MO High School in 1954 as Valedictorian. Her senior year the girls' basketball team won the conference and all the tournaments they were in. In 1956 she graduated from St. Joseph Junior College Magna Cum Laude. She played on the first St. Joseph College ladies basketball team and played for Morris Plan in the National Ladies AAU tournament in St. Joseph.
She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in elementary education from Northwest Missouri State at Maryville, MO in 1971, Magna Cum Laude.
Billie taught elementary education for 38 years at Forest City, Craig, Raymore-Peculiar, Easton, Stewartsville, Camden Point, and Platte City, MO.
Billie and her husband Earl, both retired from teaching in 1995 and moved to St. Joseph, MO after living in Dearborn, MO for 30 years.
She was a member of Piece Corp Quilt Guild and Quilters Anonymous. She was a member of the YWCA and the YMCA. She enjoyed making quilts, knitting, crocheting, and growing flowers. She enjoyed water exercise.
The body has been cremated at her request. Private interment will be at a later date in the Savannah Cemetery in Savannah, MO. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to the North Andrew Scholarship Foundation, 9120 Hwy 48, Rosendale, MO 64483. Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home of Savannah, is in charge of local arrangements.
