Betty Rose Guthrie passed away on May 9, 2016. She was born April 8, 1925 to Fred and Ida Schoenlaub in St. Joseph, Mo.
She graduated from Lafayette High School in 1943. She was a lifelong member of Woodson Chapel Christian Church. She was always active in her church, serving in many leadership roles. She was an Elder Emeritus. She was a charter member and first president of the Robidoux Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals. She also served as President of Missouri Division of that organization she passed her Certified Professional Secretary's test in 1997. She was president of the women's division of the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce. She was instrumental in starting the New Teachers Luncheon, serving as chairman for many years.
She retired in 1990 as administrative assistant to the regional director of Northwest Missouri University of Missouri Extension Service. She was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star. She served as Worthy Matron of St. Joseph Chapter 198 and Pearl Chapter 529 eight times. She also served as District Deputy Grand Matron and Grand Representative of Nova Scotia in Missouri for the Grand Chaper of Missouri.
She is survived by her son, David Evans Guthrie and his partner, Kenneth Royster both of Miami, Florida. Also by her sister, Nancy Raye Schoenlaub of the home, her sister-in-law Shirley Schoenlaub of Kansas City, her brother-in-law Doyle D. Farmer, of Savannah, Eleven nieces and nephews - Susan (Chuck) Goforth, Springfield, Mo.; Paul (Cindy) Schoenlaub, Debbie (Rob) Schaff, both of St. Joseph; Judy (Randy) Dewey, Edgerton; Dean (Susie) Farmer; Antony Ray (Trudie) Farmer, both of St. Joseph; Kathy (Rich) Hemple, of Gladstone; Mark (Gina) Farmer of Gower; Tim Farmer (partner Dennis Wilson) Plano, Texas; Fred (Gina) Cornman and Lee Cornman, both of Jensen Beach, Florida. 17 Great Nieces and Nephews, and 10 great-great nieces and nephews.
Visitation and family receiving hours will be Friday, May 20, 2016 from 6 to 8 at Gladden Stamey Funeral Home, 2335 St. Joseph Avenue, St. Joseph, MO, and Memorial Service Saturday at 10:30 at Woodson Chapel Christian Church, 2525 St. Joseph Avenue, St. Joseph, MO.
