Arminta J. Steeby, 94, of St Joseph, MO passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021, at a nursing facility in St. Joseph.  She was born November 20, 1926, to Harrison "Tom" and Nina (Lewis) Meers in Amazonia, MO.  She married Olen Herbert Steeby Jr. on June 6, 1946 in Amazonia, MO and he preceded her in death in 1980.

Arminta's passion became special needs kids and thus she went back to college to get her masters in special education. She worked in the St Joseph area at several locations before retiring from the St Joseph Public School system.  She enjoyed sewing, Square Dancing and working with special needs kids and adults. She helped organize a bowling group and a recreational club for these special people.

Survivors include, sons, Herbert (Heather) Steeby and Caryl (Susan) Steeby, and daughter, Susan J. Steeby allof St. Joseph; sister, Joyce Owens of St. Joseph; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters:  Allene Reynolds, Rosalie Kozak, and brothers: Paul, Sam and John Meers.

The family is having a private graveside service and later in July will hold a celebration of life for all her friends and family.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special Citizens of St Joseph Rec Club or UCP of St Joseph.  Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home Savannah is in charge of Local arrangements.
