Obituary

Agnes Elizabeth Kowitz Boulger, age 99, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at the Riverside Assisted Living Center in Kankakee, IL.  Agnes was born at home on Nov. 14, 1920, near Helena, Missouri, to Julius and Minnie (Triplett) Kowitz.

Agnes graduated high school from Savannah, Missouri, in 1937, and from Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College (now NWMSU), in 1941 with a B.S. Degree in Home Economics.  Her first teaching job was 45 minutes northwest of Savannah in Graham, Missouri.  After teaching a few years, she went back to school at Iowa State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (now Iowa State Univ) to get her Master's Degree. It was there, she met Edward Boulger, a Chemist in the Army, who had worked on the Manhattan Project.

Ed and Agnes were married at St. Joseph's Cathedral in St. Joseph, Missouri on August 26, 1946, and shared 62 years together, until Ed's death in May of 2009. Ed's work took them to Kankakee, IL, and once established, Agnes began teaching Home Economics at Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School (BBCHS) until her retirement in 1981.

Agnes was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, since their time in Kankakee.  During her time at Asbury, she was a member of the Memorials & the Banners Committees, attended UMW & Circle meetings, Wednesday afternoon bible study and Wednesday evening suppers.   She started volunteering weekly at the church's Thrift Shop, in her mid 90's, reminding each of us it's never too late to volunteer.  For non-church activities, she was a proud member of Minerva Club (one of the few 50-year members), Retired Teachers, Delta Kappa Gamma organizations and Women's Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ed, sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara & William Alexander and Joan & Donald Hegeman.

Survivors include sister and brother-in-law: Vivian & Gerald Cox, Overland Park, KS., and fifteen nieces and nephews.  Additional survivors include over 40 grand nieces and nephews, (including spouses), and many, many great-great nieces & nephews.
